Formerly known as Lebanon State Forest, visitors are greeted by the fresh scent of pine trees. Today's forested acres are a strong contrast to the barren, cleared land that existed here in the 1800s. The Lebanon Glass Works was established in 1851 and was successful until 1867 when it shut down after depleting the supply of wood necessary for the furnace to operate. Today hikers can follow the sandy flat trails and roads that criss cross the forest, sometimes passing remains of stone or brick structures indicating the location of what was once a bustling town. Pure, iron-rich streams flow through acres of swampy land covered with dense stands of Atlantic white cedar. The Brendan T. Byrne State Forest recreational facilities are partially accessible to persons with disabilities. Please contact the park office for information. Camping is permitted in family campsites, group campsites, cabins and yurts. Pertinent Rules & Regulations: Alcohol is prohibited. Pets, except for service animals, are prohibited from camping areas unless pet friendly sites. Pets must be on a maximum 6 foot leash where permitted. Observe quiet hours of 10pm to 6am. Unduly annoying conduct prohibited. Trash must be placed in recycle or refuse containers or taken with the visitor. Facility must be occupied and vacated as stated on permit. Maximum 6 people per site unless group site. Maximum 2 licensed vehicles on site. Extra vehicles fee applies. Campsite visitors are allowed from 8am to 8pm (day use fees apply). Maximum 14 night stay initially, then up to 40 night total in calendar year. Reservation cancellation fees apply. No refunds to evicted persons. Under age campers must have one adult supervisor to every 9 campers under the age of 18. Adult supervisors must have transportation available for emergencies. No posting of signs. No person shall damage, move or remove any plant, animal, equipment or structure. Where permitted, metal detectors require a permit. Possession of firearms is prohibited. Swimming is restricted to supervised beaches. Diving prohibited. Coast Guard approved life jackets must be available when boating. Motor vehicles must be licensed, insured and registered. Motor vehicles are restricted to established roads & parking areas. All terrain vehicles (ATV), motorized trail bikes and off-road vehicles are prohibited. Unless otherwise posted, motor vehicle speeds is limited to 35 mph on improved roads and 25mph on dirt, gravel or sand roads. Do not block traffic on roadways, paths or trails. Wood fires in campsites are permitted only in fire rings and fireplaces unless fire restriction is in effect. Fire regulations are dependant on weather conditions and do change daily. |

From the NJ turnpike, take exit 7 and follow Route 206 south to Route 38 east, to second traffic light, then turn right onto Magnolia Road (Route 644). Follow Magnolia Road until you reach the Four Mile Circle. From the circle, take Route 72 east. Make a left at Mile Marker 1. There is a Forest Entrance Sign on your left as you turn in. Take the first right and the office is on the left. |

Cabins are open from April 1st to October 31st. Yurts and camping open year-round. Cabins are 2 night minimum. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance. Brendan T. Byrne also has pet friendly campsites (sites 14-82). Pets are not allowed in the cabins or yurts. It is a carry in carry out area. WHEN YOU ARRIVE -You must sign for your own site. Have your equipment with you and be ready to camp when you register. Make and license plates of all vehicles must be provided at registration. OCCUPANCY -Limited to 6 individuals per campsite unless group site. Only 2 vehicles permitted on any campsite. Extra vehicles will be required to park in a designated area (additional fees will apply). AGE REGULATIONS -Campsites must be registered and occupied by a responsible person 18 years of age or older. QUIET HOURS -From 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., and are strictly enforced. Violators of this policy may be evicted. GENERATORS - May be used except during quiet hours. If the use of a generator is deemed unreasonably loud by the facility staff then individual use of a generator may be prohibited/limited. FIRES -Fires are only permitted between the hours of 6:00 pm and 9:00 am. Fires may only be built in the fire rings provided. Only dead and downed wood may be used for fuel. No chainsaws are allowed in campgrounds, and cutting down trees (alive or dead) is prohibited. There are bear in the area. Please keep a clean campsite. Do not leave food out. Waterfront access in campgrounds is limited to campers registered in those specific sites. Additional parking for registered campers and their guests is available in the campground for an additional fee. |

Located 30 miles from Long Beach Island on Rt 72. Brendan T. Byrne State Forest does have 25 miles of marked trails. The various trails and loops provide challenges ranging from long single track hiking trails to a trail accessible for people with disabilities. The Batona Trail is designed for hiking, cross country skiing and snow shoeing. The Mount Misery Trail allows visitors the additional option of mountain biking, and the Cranberry Trail allows access by wheelchairs in addition to all the other uses listed above. The Batona Trail is approx. 50 miles in length and links Brendan T. Byrne, Wharton and Bass River State Forests. |
